Elvira Santamaría nació en 1967 en la Ciudad de México. Estudió en la Antigua Esmeralda
y realizó estudios de Maestría en Artes Visuales en la Universidad de Ulster, Irlanda del Norte
en 2009. En 1992 participó en el Primer Mes del Performance en el Museo Universitario del
Chopo con la pieza Una noche sin dormir. Ahí conoce al artista Richard Martely al poeta francés
Serge Pay, importantes influencias en su carrera, como un poco más tarde loserán también
Esther Ferrer, Felipe Ehremberg y Mónica Mayer. En 1994 obtuvo el Primer Premio del 3er
Concurso del Mes del Performance de X-Teresa con la pieza Donación para unafuerza
ígnea y ese mismos año es invitada al Encuentro Internacional de Performance de Quebec.
Desde entonces, Santamaría ha presentado su trabajo en festivales, centros de arte, galerías,
museos y espacios públicos de México, Europa, Norteamérica, Asia y América Latina. Ejemplos:
3er Festival del Performance, Ex Teresa Arte Actual, 1994; gira en Alemania: Colonia, Dusseldorf,
Essen, Dortmund y Bonn, organizada por ASA European, 1997; Expo Hanover 2000; gira en
Japón (Tokio, Kioto, Nagano y Nagoya) Nippon International Performance Art Festival (NIPAF),
2002: Evento Labor, en Londres, Dublín y Derry/London Derry 2012 y, más recientemente, en
SACRED: Homelands en Londres y Festival de Arte Acción de Cuenca, FAAC, 2016.
De 1997 a 2000, vivió y trabajó en Dresde, Alemania, participando en varios eventos en otras
ciudades europeas. Desde el 2000 es miembro del grupo de performance Black Market International.
A su regreso a México organizó el Encuentro de Performance México-Japón en las ciudades de
México y Mérida. Desde entonces ha organizado y curado varios eventos como el anual
Encuentro Internacional de Performance de Yucatán 2002-2006; Acciones en Ruta, Intervenciones
en la Ciudad de México 2001 y 2003, este último junto con Víctor Muñoz; InterSER0, Encuentro
Internacional de Arte Acción 2009, en el Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil. En 2007 realizó la serie “Acciones
Urbanas” en Bogotá, experiencia decisiva en su forma de concebir la acción artística en espacios
públicos. De 2010 a la fecha, es miembro del comité de Bbeyond, organización promotora de
performance en Irlanda del Norte. En 2013 fue nominada al premio ARTRAKER, Awarding
creativity in art and conflicto en Londres y, posteriormente,fue invitada a ser miembro mentor de
la misma organización y jurado de Artrakers 2014. Fue miembro del Sistema Nacional de Creadores
de Arte, FONCA 2013.
Su trabajo e ideas se han publicado en varios libros, catálogos y revistas, así como en sitios de

de México y el extranjero como el taller de performance en School of the Fine Arts Museum en
Boston 2007 (taller), Laboratorios Existenciales del arte Acción en el Museo Universitario de Arte
Contemporáneo de México (MUAC) 2013 y el taller Formas y Procesos Creativos del Arte Acción,
Escuela de Arte Xul Solar, Junín, Argentina en 2016.
Actualmente su trabajo se centra en las acciones en espacios públicos, instalación-performance,
arte del proceso y performance de cámara. Actualmente radica entre Irlanda del Norte y México.
Elvira Santamaría-Torres was born in 1967 in Mexico City. He studied at the Antigua Esmeralda
and made Master's studies in Visual Arts at the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland in 2009. In
1992 she participated in the First Month of performance Art at the Museo Universitario del Chopo

From 1997 to 2000, she lived and worked in Dresden, Germany, participating in several events in
other European cities. Since 2000 she is a member of the performance art group Black Market
International. Upon her return to Mexico, she organized the Mexico-Japan Performance Art
Encounter in Mexico City and Mérida. Since then she has organized and curated several events
such as the annual International Performance Art Encounter in Yucatán 2002-2006; Actions on
Route, Interventions in Mexico City in 2001 and in 2003 together with Víctor Muñoz; InterSER0,
International Action Art Encounter at the Carrillo Gil Art Museum 2009. In 2007 produced the series
"Urban Actions" in Bogotá, a decisive experience in his way of conceiving artistic action in public
context. Santamaría has been a committee member of Bbeyond, a performance art organization in
Northern Ireland. In 2013 she was nominated for the First price at the ARTRAKER award, Awarding
creativity in art and conflict in London and, subsequently, she was invited to be jury of Artrakers
2014 award. She was a member of the National System of Art Creators, FONCA 2013.

and abroad as the performance workshop at the School of Fine Arts Museum in Boston 2007;
Existential Laboratories of Art Action at the University Museum of Contemporary Art of Mexico
( MUAC) 2013, and the Art Action Forms and Creative Process, Xul Solar Art School, Junín,
Argentina in 2016.
Currently, her work focuses on public actions, process art, installation-performance and chamber
performance. She currently lives between Northern Ireland and Mexico.
